Volunteer Garden

On Hold for 2020 Pending Core Team Vacancy

One of our goals of creating Growing Greens Milford Community Garden was to be able to share our bountiful harvest with our community.

In 2011, our first growing year, we designated a double plot to the "Community Sharing Outreach Center" located in Highland, Michigan. Through generous donations of plants, seeds and hard work, we were able to grow, harvest and then donate a wonderful variety of fresh produce to the Center's pantry for distribution to families in Highland, Milford and surrounding areas.

In 2012, we set aside 7 plots for a garden to support Community Sharing and donated 575 lbs of food. The next year, 2013, we harvested 1570 lbs. of vegetables for the community using 4450 sq. ft. of designated garden space.  Over 2700 lbs. of organic produce was delivered to Community Sharing in 2014.  In 2015 and 2016 over 1800 and 1660 pounds of vegetables, respectively, was donated to the Community Sharing Outreach Center in Highland, MI.

If you are interested in donating your time to help maintain this garden throughout our growing season, please contact us info@growinggreensmilford.org.

2015 Thank you letter from Community Sharing (See Attachment at bottom of page)

Alison and Bridget,

Thank you to you and all the members of the Milford Garden for providing fresh grown vegetables for the clients of Community Sharing. The fresh vegetables let us provide nutritious foods to the community. Clients were so excited to see what we would have each week. Your hard work provided fresh vegetables each month for a average of 320 families approximately 820 individuals. If we had left over vegetables that wouldn't last until the following week they were passed on to Grace Center of Hope in Pontiac. Grace Center of Hope is a 24 hour rescue that serves hot meals for the homeless and families.

Thank you,

Kathy Pardikes
